Statement "This has been a heartbreaking week for all Americans. We mourn the tragic killings of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and five Dallas police officers who were on duty during a peaceful protest. These deaths compel us to address our nation's legacy of structural racism and a toxic gun culture in order to move forward. No mother, father, child or neighbor should ever have to mourn the loss of a loved one to violence. We are better than this."

Statement “With Cameron Sterling’s heart-breaking cry still ringing in our ears as he mourned the police shooting death of his father, Alton Sterling, we awoke this morning to news of yet another African American man, Philando Castile, being shot and killed by a police officer. His girlfriend and her four-year-old daughter were witnesses to his death.

Statement “MomsRising members are heartbroken for the family of Alton Sterling, and deeply disturbed by his killing at the hands of police. No mother should ever have to explain to her children that their father will not be coming home because he was killed by police, for no reason other than being a black man in America. And yet, tragically, Sterling is the 114th Black man to be killed by police in the U.S. just this year. This is not okay.

News release In Jacksonville, Florida, more than 8,000 four-year-olds are enrolled in a city book club and receive free backpacks filled with reading resources, and each month, their parents receive a book to read with them. Statement “Nearly every week we are reminded of ongoing structural racism in our nation that must be deconstructed. Nothing demonstrates that more clearly than the past weeks' failures of our criminal justice system to hold any of the involved officers accountable in the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, or in the video taped assault on the teen at the McKinney pool in Texas, as well as the ongoing failure of justice in the death of Ramarley Graham and too many others. Our nation must end racial profiling and police brutality, as well as halt mass incarceration.

Statement “Last night, moms and their families across America cheered on the House Democrats as they staged a historic sit-in to urge a vote on common-sense gun safety measures. Over the past several years moms have sent in over 100,000 letters, made calls, visited leaders, shared their stories with gun violence, held events, and so much more. With an epidemic of gun deaths - more than 33,000 Americans are injured or killed by guns each year - now is not the time for business as usual.

Statement “Moms and their families across the country are deeply disappointed at the Supreme Court’s decision on President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, which aimed to keep immigrant families together and strengthen our nation’s economy with their contributions. The Court’s decision to let stand the lower court’s ruling means that the more than 5 million children in homes with one undocumented parent face being separated from their parents.

Statement "It's easy to think about giving up in times like these. But we can't. The current situation is simply not okay. More than 20,000 children are injured or killed by guns each year, more  than 33,000 people are killed by guns each year, and just last week 49 people in Orlando were gunned down in a LGBTQ+ safe space on Latino night by a mass shooter using a military-style assault weapon with a high capacity magazine that has no legitimate civilian use.

Statement “The Philadelphia City Council today stood up for children’s health by passing a tax on soda that will go to expand pre-K and invest in parks, community schools, recreation centers, and libraries. The new tax will support important investments in our city's children. It will also help to reduce children’s consumption of sugary carbonated beverages that have no nutritional value and have been linked to a range of serious lifelong health problems including diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

Statement “There are no words. We are heartbroken for the victims, their families, the city of Orlando, the LGBTQ+ community, and for our nation.    “Gun violence is never the answer.   “Today we mourn, tomorrow we rise for gun safety policies that bring real safety and real change. And we rise to stand against all hate crimes. There were 372 mass shootings in 2015 alone. This can't continue.”
